Second try

Second Try
12/2/16

Hey, welcome back!

After succeeded in my paper-cutting first try last week, this week I did my second paper-cutting which is also the second product of level 1. This one looks like a flower.

Things you need to prepare before doing it:
Craft knife
Cutting board
Regular scissors
Color-papers
Pencil and eraser

Let’s start to have some fun now!

The steps are the same as last time.

First, cut the color-paper into square. (I used the paper with the same patterns as last week.) The dimension of my square is still 15cm*15cm since I think it is a good size for beginners to practice.

Then, fold the square into triangles two times like this.

After folding, draw the outlines of the patterns that you are going to cut. Do not draw the patterns so small.

Finally, cut it. (You can use regular scissors if the part starts from the edge; otherwise, you need to use craft knife to cut it carefully.)

Then, open it. Isn’t that cute? ^.^

Next week, I am going to the last product of level one (easy-practice). And I am going to see my paper-cutting teacher in China during Christmas break. Then, I'll start doing level two, median, products after I come back.
Welcome back to see my blog if you like my project. ^ ^

First Try

11/18/16

Second week

Hi, thanks for coming back to visit my blog!^-^

This week was a busy week for us before Thanksgiving break, so I am sorry for didn't do a lot on my project. On Friday afternoon, I began my first try of paper cutting. I was surprised that it actually turned well! (The picture is on the right.)

Now I am going to teach you how I cut it. The color paper I used was from Michael's which I bought last week.

First, I cut a square in dimension 15cm*15cm
Second, I followed the online-picture that I was interested in and folded the paper into triangle three times like this.

Then, I drew the outlines of the patterns that I was going to cut. (Since it was my first time to try it, I needed to draw the outline. I think after being more and more familiar with the patterns, I won't need to draw the outline any more.)

Finally, I used normal scissors and craft knife to cut it.

Then, I was done! Isn't that easy and turns well?If you are interested, try it!Thanks for visiting my blog again!Welcome back if you are still interested to learn more patterns.

Introduction

Week 1
11/11/2016

Hello, welcome to my blog!

This year for our English class, we are having a creative project called Genius Hour. I am going to learn how to make Chinese paper cuttings and then make a series of teaching videos for people who want to learn making Chinese paper cuttings.
My goal is to learn making different levels of paper cuttings and video how I did them.

Here are some different levels:
Level 1 - Easy. This level will just be some simple patterns as practice.

Level 2 - Medium. For this level, we will begin to make some simple traditional Chinese paper cuttings.

Level 3 - Challenge. For this level I am going to try to make a very complex paper-cutting rabbit. I am still not sure about if I can make it, but I'll try!!!

Level 4 - Creative Level. After making several Chinese traditional paper cuttings, I am going to learn making pretty & fancy paper cuttings from other countries.

I just bought my color papers and special knife this week. I will try to keep updating my blog every week about what I did for this project over the week.

So, see you next week! : )
